Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT) - It’s fair to say, if you've driven in Twin Falls recently you've run into construction; as a result some drivers have found alternate ways to get to their destination.
The construction on Washington and Filer has certainly changed the way many people drive through Twin Falls.
Area driver Alberdina Hojnacki says, "With all that lovely construction on Washington, avoid as much as possible."
Even pedestrians say it’s difficult to navigate across the dirt gravel and through the barrels.
Pedestrian Traci Clark says, "With the way it is I actually have to basically pray I don't get hit everyday. I literally jump into the trench and jump back out to cross."
Clark who doesn't own a car and walks everyday back and forth to work doesn't think walking is any better than driving.
She says, "I think its actually kind of worse for pedestrians especially with the Washington all ripped up the way it is you cant cross there's no safe place to cross at all."
Take a drive down Blue Lakes at certain times and you find plenty of traffic.
Twin Falls Police Department Staff Sgt. Dennis Pullin says, "Over the past several weeks with all the construction that we have going on around Twin Falls, we have seen an increase in traffic flows on Blue Lakes Boulevard North."
Even that has other drivers bypassing the cities main route through town; Pullin says drivers have pretty much adapted to the new traffic conditions in the city.
Long time resident Carroll Matthews has certainly seen a change at the corner of Monroe and Meadows Lane.
He says, "We’ve seen quite an increase in the traffic along here, usually there's quite a bit of traffic between here and CSI, this seems to be the main thorough fair coming through here."
Twin Falls Police received a number of complaints mainly because of speeding; Pullin says complaints have died down and ask that drivers be patient while construction continues.
