Lloyd Family Christmas Trees: tree sales good this year
Even though it's the day after Christmas, a big part of the holidays for most of us is the tree.
However, for those people selling Christmas trees, it's a short window of time to sell this year: they had five weeks.
But, it's a feat one local Christmas tree shop takes on every year.
John Lloyd, of Lloyd Family Christmas Trees, said, "My father started this in 1953. We started in 5 points. Then we moved here 30 years ago. It was just a dirt lot then.
It's at the corner of Addison and Eastland in Twin Falls where every single Christmas you can find Lloyd Family Christmas trees.
Lloyd said, "It's fun. You get to meet people and they come back every year."
Despite a sour economy, tree sales for the year were up.
Buying those trees are locals like Russell and Lacie Asher from Burley.
They said, "The smell and the feeling of picking out your own tree every year. We'd love to pick it out in the Hills one day soon."
But for now, they're here, picking out what they call a "Charlie Brown tree, saying "we get the smallest one we can find."
This year, they sold 4,000 Christmas trees and they say that's a lot for one season, so which one was the most popular? The big ones or the little ones? They tell say, a little of both.
Lloyd said, "Whenever we can locate them. We go to Washington, Oregon, Montana."
Asked if they would come back next year, Lloyd said, “Absolutely. I've been doing this for 35 years. I don't know where else to be this time of the year."
