Boise Infant Dies from Injuries
BOISE, Idaho (Idaho Statesman) - The 3-month-old boy critically injured at a south Ada County home Friday morning died Saturday at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Boise, said the Ada County Sheriff's Office.
The Ada County Coroner staff is conducting an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Those findings and the child’s name will be released pending notification of family members. The baby's father, Reynaldo "Lucas" Sanchez, 19, was charged with felony injury to a child after paramedics found the boy critically injured at the home on South Staaten Place Friday morning. Prosecutors are determining what new charge will be filed against Sanchez. He will remain in custody on a $1 million bond while that determination is made. Paramedics responded to a 911 call made at about 10:25 a.m. on Friday. The caller said a baby had fallen out of an infant bouncy seat and was unresponsive. The baby was transported by ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital in Meridian for treatment of significant injuries to his head and body. The child was moved to St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Boise a short time later. Based on the nature of the infant's injuries, Ada County Sheriff’s deputies were called to investigate. Detectives determined the injuries were not consistent with a fall from a bouncy seat, but had, in fact, been caused by the child’s father. A judge issued a $1 million arrest warrant for Sanchez Friday evening. He was booked into the Ada County Jail just after 6:15 p.m. He is being held on the $1 million bond. Sanchez rents a room at the South Staaten Place home. The infant was in Sanchez’s care. They were the only two people in the home at the time of the incident. Sanchez had apparently called other residents of the home this morning to report that his son had fallen out of the infant seat and was hurt. Those adults went to the house, saw the baby and immediately called 911 to ask for medical help. Comments ( |
