Saturday Marks National Missing Children's Day
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Saturday is National Missing Children's Day.
The statistics are staggering: 2,000 children go missing each day. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children wants parents to know for every minute a child is missing, they're potentially a mile farther from safety.
The Twin Falls Police Department offers parents some tips to keep children safe.
Officer Weigt says, "You need to do a lot of what if scenarios with your children, regularly in your homes. What if this happened, what if this happened, what do you think you should do? And have those conversations with them regularly so when those things happen, they should know what to do."
Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer. With kids out of school and an increase in travel, national law enforcement says now is the perfect time to bring awareness to missing children.
