Local FSA Office Works To Get Information Out About The Farm Bill
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) With limited resources, the local USDA and FSA office has to work a little harder to get the information out about the changes
"What we want to remind our producers is that as we have shorter staff and less outreach, we have to try to get a hold of them in ways that are available via email or by the news that we are doing here," said Lance Phillips with the local FSA Office.
With the changes and renewal of several programs on the farm bill, the local FSA office has lots of information that you need to know.
"The ACRE option which was required for them to be signed up can now be exited out which means an increase of their regular payment of twenty percent," said Phillips.
The direct counter cyclical program started on February 19th and runs through august 2nd. The DCP is a direct payment to farmers and ranchers based upon the base acres of the farm they are raising crops on.
"What we would like them to do is come in and sign up that contract, get it in place. We are still waiting to find out when those will be paid and the amount for sure but they are able to sign those up starting on February 19th," said Lance Phillips.
The local farm service agency and the agriculture community continues to sort out the details of the farm bill.
