UPDATE: Drivers Killed In Two-Vehicle Crash Near Kimama Butte

UPDATE 1:50PM WEDNESDAY AUGUST 8, 2012 (KMVT-TV) Police have released the names of those who died in the two vehicle accident near Kimama on the Lincoln and Minidoka county line. Idaho State Police say Rose Pope, 72 of Richfield was westbound in a 1999 Ford F-350 pulling a horse trailer. There were two horses in the trailer. Josh Burgoyne, 20 of the Rupert/Paul area, was eastbound on Highway 24, in a 2004 Ford F250 pulling a empty Tanker. The vehicles collided head on near milepost 35. Both vehicles went off the road on the southbound side and became fully engulfed in flames. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. The horses also died in the crash.


UPDATE: Near Kimama Butte, Idaho (KMVT-TV) All lanes are now open on Highway 24 following a deadly two-vehicle crash that killed both drivers.

ORIGINAL STORY:Near Kimama Butte, Lincoln County, Idaho (KMVT-TV) Two people are dead following a two vehicle accident on Highway 24 north at 600 West in Lincoln County.

The accident has closed the road. The authorities on scene say the road is expected to be closed for some time. The report of the accident came in at 2:45pm this afternoon.

Police and fire rescue personnel that are on scene say the collision and fire started nearby brush on fire. BLM’s Kylie Gough said that the fire has burned about 7 acres so far.

Idaho Power officials said that they had an equipment malfunction near the scene of the fire at the time of the reported accident, but have been able to correct the problem and it did not affect any customers.

It’s not known what caused the collision. Early unconfirmed reports indicate it was a pickup pulling some form of a livestock trailer and a truck hauling fertilizer.
