CSI President Dr. Jerry Beck Announces Retirement Plans

By Paul Johnson

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - The College of Southern Idaho President Dr. Jerry Beck has said he has chosen to step down from the college presidency as of July 1. At that time, Dr. Beck has said he plans to begin a six-month sabbatical with formal retirement December 31, 2013. The CSI Board of Trustees has voted to appoint former CSI Foundation Executive Directory Curtis H. Eaton to be CSI’s Interim President beginning July 1.

Dr. Beck began his CSI career in 1975 as a certified technical instructor, teaching small engine repair. He went on to become the Coordinator of CSI’s Trade and Industrial Division where he developed many industry partnerships including the General Motors Auto Service Education (ASEP) Program. Later, as Dean of Continuing Education, he created the Arts on Tour program along with a yearly program that brought nationally known speakers to Twin Falls, including former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, astronomer and author Carl Sagan, and U.S. Secretary of Education William Bennett. Prior to being named President in 2005, Beck was CSI’s Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer.

Curtis Eaton said in a note, “First, compliments and sincere thanks to Dr. Jerry Beck for nearly 40 years of service and dedication to the College of Southern Idaho and the communities of southern Idaho.

We want to ensure that this tradition of excellence continues.

CSI’s next president has big shoes to fill. The occupants of this office – ‘Doc’ Taylor, Jerry Meyerhoeffer, and Jerry Beck – have overseen tremendous success in academics, economic development, community relations, and athletics. My job as Interim President is to pave the way for our next president to have a long and successful tenure.

Between now and the time the next president is selected, the most important thing for CSI is not to slow down. We're not going to slam on the brakes or even coast. We will need the various stakeholders to help select the most significant goals and objectives that can be achieved in this interim period.”
