UPDATE: Police Release Details To Fatal Accident Between Wendell and Gooding
UPDATE: On Thursday August 1, 2013, at 6:52 am, the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle fatality crash northbound on State Highway 46 near Shoestring Road, approximately mile marker 107, between Wendell and Gooding. Bertha Ramos-Flores, 33, of Gooding, was traveling northbound on State Highway 46, in a 2001 Honda Accord when, for unknown reasons, she crossed the center line, forcing another vehicle off the road. Peter Orth, 49, of Gooding, was traveling southbound in a 2007 Ford Econoline van. Ramos-Flores and Orth's vehicles struck head on blocking both lanes. Ramos-Flores was not wearing her seatbelt and succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Orth was wearing his seatbelt and was transported by ground ambulance to North Canyon Medical Center. Notifications have been made.
State Highway 46 was blocked for approximately three hours. The crash remains under investigation.
UPDATE 10:30 AM - The Idaho State Police say the road is now open in both directions. Officers remain on scene as the investigation continues.
Wendell, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - There has been a fatal accident on Highway 46 between Wendell and Gooding this morning. According to dispatch, they were notified about 6:52 am. At this time officials are working to identify the person who has died and will release more information as next of kin is notified.
According to the Idaho Transportation Department, Highway 46 at milemarker 107.2 is closed in both directions. The road closure extends between the 2100 South Road and Shoestring Road which is 3 miles north of the Wendell area.
At this time it’s not known when the road will be re-opened. Motorists traveling that road will need to find an alternate route this morning.
