Fire Crews Continue To Battle Fire Near Atlanta

Atlanta, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - The Little Queens Fire one mile northwest of Atlanta continues to burn out of control today. It is approximately 16,212 acres with 0% containment. The fire made a significant push to the southeast over the last 24 hours. Hotshot crews, from the Boise and Sawtooth National Forests initiated a critical burnout operation just north of Atlanta last night and may continue that into Saturday night.
There is a Mandatory Evacuation in effect for Atlanta. Although some residents have chosen to remain, the area is closed to the public.
Meanwhile, other fires burning on the Boise district lands, started by lightning strikes yesterday sent crews scrambling. In the past 24 hours, 15 new fires were reported. All are staffed. Initial attack forces were effectively used involving helicopters, air tankers, engines, dozers and hand crews. A fire north of Banks near Highway 55 caused concern for possible closure of Highway 55 late Friday, but was avoided with a tactical decision to use a helicopter water dipping site away from the Payette River.
