Castleford, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - Fire has destroyed a large amount of hay at a Castleford dairy. Firefighters battled the blaze overnight that, according to a family member on the scene, destroyed more than 7 huge stacks of hay. Fire also destroyed two commodity sheds and one large straw stack. We are told that over 5000 tons were lost in the fire. The fire at the Kows R Us dairy, 740 East and 3400 North, was reported Wednesday afternoon. According to Mickey Dekruyf who's family is part owner of the facility, the fire started on the west side of the stacks. They lost all of their first cutting hay. The dairy has 1800 cows. No livestock were hurt in the fire and only the commodity sheds were damaged. The milking parlor or any of the corrals were not damaged. The fire was fanned by winds that blew through the area. The Castleford fire department asked for mutual aid from Buhl and Filer Fire Departments.
