Judge says no to new trial for Sarah Johnson
TWIN FALLS, ID (KMVT-TV) A 5th district judge has turned down a request for a new trial in the case of a Blaine county woman convicted of killing her parents.
Judge Richard Bevan ruled this morning that Sarah Johnson, 24, did not have ineffective legal counsel at the time of her first degree murder trial in 2005.
In his ruling Bevan said new fingerprint evidence brought forward after Johnson's conviction wasn't sufficient to order a new trial.
Johnson was 16 years old in 2003 when law enforcement officials said she killed her mother and father in their home in Bellevue.
It's believed the killings occurred following an argument Johnson had with her parents over her then boyfriend.
Johnson's attorney says he'll appeal the ruling.
Johnson is currently serving two life terms without the possibility of parole
