Multiple Accidents Close Portion Of Interstate 84 In Jerome County

UPDATE: Two people are in the hospital following crashes involving four vehicles which closed part of Interstate 84.

14-year old Maria Prieto of Murphy, ID was driving a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer when she lost control of the vehicle. After her car rolled into the median and stopped in the left lane of Interstate 84 heading eastbound.

Rupert resident, 32-year old Noelia Chacon was driving the opposite direction in a 2008 Honda CR-V.

After trying to avoid hitting a 2005 Toyota 4Runner being driven by 22-year old Caitlin Thompson of Sandy, UT, Chacon turned into the westbound right hand lane, hitting a 2013 Chevrolet sedan driven by 46-year old Nickalos Shugars of Dubois, PA.

Chacon's vehicle then overturned, and struck the vehicle driven by Thompson.

Prieto was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. She was ejected from the vehicle.

All other drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Prieto and Chacon were transported by ground ambulance to St. Luke's Magic Valley.

Traffic was blocked for about two hours while crews worked to clear the scene.

Jerome, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - Police are on scene of an accident that has closed a portion of I-84. According to the Idaho State Police, the accident happened near milepost 180 which is east of the 1-84 Highway 93 Intersection in Jerome County. There are 3 to 4 vehicles involved and according to scanner traffic, there are two separate crashes. At this time Eastbound traffic is completely shut down and there is one lane open for the westbound traffic in that area. There were injuries reported. At this time it’s not known the extent of those injuries. It’s also not known what caused the accidents. Traffic is completely blocked eastbound and there is only one lane open westbound.
