Castleford, Idaho (KMVT-TV) There are multiple fires burning on the Twin Falls District Bureau of Land Management, the largest of those and the number one fire in the nation is the Kinyon Road Fire in the Jarbidge Field Office. Over 190,000 acres have burned west of Castleford, crossing the Saylor Creek Road and burning a portion of the Mountain Home Air Force Base Saylor Creek Training Range. The structures threatened near Castleford earlier today, are no longer being threatened by this fire. The fire is actively burning between the Saylor Creek Road and Winter Camp Butte – with winds pushing the fire south of the Training Range. Additionally, a portion of the Saylor Creek Wild Horse Herd Management Area has also burned, however the horses have not been threatened by the fire. There is plenty of forage and water to sustain the horses. This fire is currently estimated at 40% contained, and no control or containment times have been estimated. Resources include two Heavy Engine Air Tankers, three Helicopters, one Lead Plane, two Air Attack, and four Single Engine Air Tankers. Other resources on the fire include 24 engines, four dozers, six water tenders, and two hand crews. The Type II team has arrived and is integrating with the crews working on the fire, preparing to take control of the fire at 6am tomorrow morning.
The Laidlaw fire has burned 8,100 acres of the Shoshone Field Office, south of the Bear Den Butte Wilderness Study Area and is estimated to be contained tomorrow at 1800. No structures are threatened, resources include one dozer, seven engines, and air support.
