UPDATE: One Person Arrested Following Murder In Hospital Parking Lot
Ontario, Oregon ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - Police are continuing their investigation in which one person was shot and killed at the Saint Alphonsus Hospital in Ontario Oregon. Authorities say the shooting occurred around 3:30 am this Friday Morning. Ontario Police say the shooting happened in the west parking lot of the hospital. The victim, 42 year-old Dale Joseph Wright, of Ontario was allegedly shot by 24 year-old Juan Carlos Lopez, of Ontario.
The two are known to each other and had arrived to St Alphonsus together. They met with a female acquaintance in the parking lot when the shooting occurred. The female summoned help from the hospital.
Juan Carlos Lopez fled the scene and drove over the victim in the process. Lopez was located and arrested at a home in Nyssa. He was taken into custody at about 6:23am.
Dale Joseph Wright was taken into St Alphonsus Medical Center and was pronounced dead.
Lopez was taken to the Malheur County Jail and has been lodged for Murder.
An autopsy is scheduled with the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office on March
15th. The medical center is a 49 bed acute care facility.
The medical facility issued the following statement. "As safety is our first priority at Saint Alphonsus, we have stringent guidelines in place to handle these types of situations. Our security, medical, and support staff handled the incident very well, strictly adhering to those guidelines. The incident that occurred in the parking lot of the Ontario Medical Center is currently being investigated by the Ontario Police Department."
The investigation continues. The case is being managed by the Oregon State Police with
the assistance of the Ontario Police Department, Malheur County Sheriff’s Office, Nyssa
Police Department and Malheur County District Attorney.
