Power Off For Much Of Wood River Valley Wednesday Afternoon

By Paul Johnson

Blaine County, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - Upwards to 17,000 Idaho Power customers in the Shoshone and Wood River Valley were in the dark this Wednesday afternoon when three cross-arms on a main transmission line broke. According to Brad Bowlin with Idaho Power the crews discovered the broken cross-arms north of Shoshone. They are not sure what caused them to break at this time. Unfortunately crews were doing maintenance on one of the two main transmission lines that serve the area. When the cross-arms broke, power was lost for Sun Valley, Ketchum, Hailey, Bellevue, Picaboo, West Magic, Richfield, Carey and Shoshone. As of 4:15 pm all but 4000 customers were in the dark but power was expected to be restored very soon for those customers, Bowlin said.
