Semi Truck Collides With Car Parked Along The Freeway Near Jerome

By Paul Johnson

Jerome, Idaho (KMVT-TV) A semi truck driver hit a car on Interstate 84 just east of the 168 on ramp near Jerome, temporarily stopping all traffic moving eastbound last night.
According to the Idaho State Police, Oregon resident William Moriarty was driving the semi.
Moriarty tells authorities he was trying to change lanes to avoid hitting a parked, unoccupied car on the right shoulder of the road.
That's when he dropped his soda, and struck the car instead as he reached to pick it up.
Moriarty wasn't injured in the wreck, but the semi truck caught fire and soon was completely engulfed in the flames.
Meanwhile, the highway was closed for about an hour and a half before officials opened one lane up for traffic.
The wreck is still under investigation and the cleanup continued Wednesday morning.
