By Paul Johnson

Boise, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - Are you planning to visit the Boise National Forest this weekend? If so, here is some information you are going to want to know. What’s open and what’s closed?

Popular Areas Closed
• Trinity Lakes Recreation Area
• South Fork Boise River-the road is open, however adjacent area is closed.
• Middle Fork Boise Road-the road is open below the closure point for the Little Queens Fire. Public land north of the road is open, but the south side is closed to the Forest boundary near Arrowrock Reservoir.

A Closure Order remains on portions of the Sawtooth and Boise National Forests due to the Little Queens Fire. The closed area within the Boise National Forest is generally bounded by the Middle Fork Boise River Road (Forest Road 268) and Swanholm Road junction (Forest Road 327), then north on the Swanholm Road to Trail 057, then east to Forest Road 312 until it meets the Sawtooth Wilderness Boundary, and then south along the Wilderness boundary to the Boise/Sawtooth National Forest boundary and then west along the Mountain Home and Idaho City Ranger Districts boundary to Phifer Creek Road and then north until the junction of the Middle Fork Boise River Road. Elmore County has closed the James Creek Road from Rocky Bar north.
A Closure Order remains in place for public land in the vicinity of the Elk and Pony Complexes. All county roads and most forest roads within the Pine-Featherville area are open. However, the public cannot walk, drive or recreate on National Forest lands within the area closure.
For Closure area details, please visit: www.fs.usda.gov/main/boise/home or call 384-3266.
Popular Areas Open
• Forest Service Road 172 from Featherville to Forest Road 129; Forest Road 129 south to Trinity Lakes Recreation Area is closed due to a burned bridge.
• Lower Middle Fork Boise River Road from the Swanholm/Phifer Road junction.
• North Fork Boise River Road system
• Edna Creek Road
• Payette River Road System (includes North, Middle and South Forks)
• Bear Valley/Bull Trout Lake; Stanley/Landmark Road

Little Queens Fire (23,324 acres; 20% contained) – Fire behavior yesterday was diminished. Crews are securing and mopping up control lines on the south flank near Atlanta. Structure protection measures in and around the community, such as hoses and pumps, are being removed. The west and northwest flanks have potential to grow but should run into previously burned areas.

Little Queens fire information is available at www.inciweb.org/incident/3681 or by calling 877-372-8882.

Stage 1 fire restrictions are still in effect. Campfires are allowed only in Forest Service developed structures in a campground. Scattered across the forest are some metal rings in dispersed sites (not campgrounds). These are NOT legal while restrictions are in place. Rock rings are also not legal. The general guideline is campfires are allowed only in fee campgrounds.
