Burley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - It started with a break-in, then a flood. Now the Burley senior center is being forced to cut services. Center Director Linda Reyes said about three weeks ago, someone broke in and ripped the safe containing mostly bingo money, right off the wall. About a week later, someone turned the swamp cooler water supply on without the cooler unit actually running. That caused water to run into the center, flooding the kitchen and the dining area. Reyes said she thinks someone did this on purpose, saying this did not look like an accident. The water caused thousands of dollars worth of damage. Walls had to be removed which will add to the repair price.
The meals on wheels program will continue, but due to the amount of damage sustained by the flood, the center was forced to close their doors to the public meaning seniors from around the area will not be able to eat at the center during the noon hour.
The center is asking for your help. Call them at 878-8646 with any assistance you might be able to provide.
