The Water Fire Has Burned 550 Acres In California; Containment At 40-Percent
Kern County, California (CNN) - Crews work to battle a wildfire burning near interstate-5 in California.
Two brush fires merged into "the water fire" -- so called because of its location near a watering hole.
They burned about five-hundred-50 acres, forcing the California highway patrol to close a shoulder of the interstate at one point.
About three-hundred people, including firefighters, are working to control the flames.
As of Tuesday evening, the water fire was 40-percent contained.
Some people in the Digier canyon area were evacuated to a nearby school.
Crews are working to protect about 45 houses in the canyon, but there is no imminent threat to any of the buildings.
