Fish Wash Up Dead In Honolulu Harbor After Molasses Spill
Honolulu, Hawaii (CNN) - Fish are washing up dead in Hawaii after a molasses spill in Honolulu harbor.
One resident saw more than 50 eels at the surface.
The Hawaii state department of health says a leak in a molasses pipeline could have caused about 233-thousand gallons of molasses to spill.
It cited representatives from Matson Navigation Company.
Also, a Matson ship was loaded with 16-hundred tons of molasses early Monday morning.
It left Honolulu harbor before sunrise, after which a discoloration of the water was reported.
The dark cloud of molasses is moving with the tides and currents from the harbor into Keehi lagoon, where it is expected to dissipate into the ocean.
