By Paul Johnson

Boise, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - Boise Police say they arrested a man and a woman late Sunday night after an officer spotted the driver speeding and with no tail lights. The officer said she could see the driver tapping the brakes of a Chevy Impala and driving erratically. As the officer stopped the vehicle, the driver grabbed what appeared to be a long gun and ran through a nearby carport and into the surrounding neighborhood. Matthew T. Welch 26, of Boise was located on South Phillipi Street just south of Franklin Road. He was charged with 2nd Degree Kidnapping, robbery and three counts of Agrivated Assult. A 12 Gauge shotgun was later found in the carport tracking the suspect’s path. Another person, identified by police as Heather M. Johns, 23 of Boise was also arrested and charged with 2nd degree kidnapping. Inside the vehicle, officers found the driver, identified as Johns and another adult male passenger. After investigating, officers found evidence that, just a short time prior to the traffic stop, the suspect had used the shotgun to threaten three people, then forced one into the vehicle driven by Johns. All three victims told officers they feared for their safety.
The incident appears to be the result of an ongoing dispute.
