Optum Takes Over Idaho’s Medicaid Behavioral Health Plan

Boise, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - Idaho’s Medicaid is now under the management of Optum. That, according to the Idaho Health and Welfare Director Richard Armstrong. According to Armstrong, Optum began management of outpatient community-based mental health services, addiction disorder services, and case management services for Idaho Medicaid on Sept. 1 to help people access the most effective treatment for their needs.

Optum was selected to manage behavioral health services in April after an intensive competitive bid process and has established its main Idaho office in Meridian.

Optum is working with the state, consumers, behavioral health providers and community stakeholders to enhance the statewide behavioral health system and focus care on achieving long-term recovery.

“Idaho contracted with Optum to create an integrated behavioral health system that is more coordinated, effective and accountable, while improving accessibility for people in rural areas,” says Armstrong. “Optum has worked very diligently with Medicaid providers and participants to make the transition to managed care very smooth.”
