Amid Strike, BART Train Kills Two Workers

By KMVT News

Walnut Creek, California (CNN) A California "BART" train hit and killed two workers on a section of track northeast of San Francisco.

That's according to the transit authority.

BART officials say the two employees were performing track inspections.

The train was being operated by computer in automatic mode when the accident happened, though officials say an experienced operator was at the controls on board.

The train was not in service at the time of the accident, which comes amid a worker strike that has suspended train service since Friday.

One of the unions involved in the strike announced it would not hold picket lines Sunday out of respect for the victims' families.
