Burley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The Bureau of Land Management is giving the okay to begin building the Gateway West Transmission Line on public land.

The power line would stretch almost a thousand miles from central Wyoming to southwest Idaho. The BLM gave approval to build on eight of the ten segments. Construction will begin in Wyoming in 2016. Approval for the other land in the remaining two sections will take place under a separate process.

Heather Feeney, spokesperson for the Idaho Bureau of Land Management, says, "We're going to continue our discussions that have been ongoing with state and local government officials in that area. As well as private landowners and other stakeholders at the company, to find the right place to put those last two segments."

Idaho Governor Butch Otter commented, "I've made no secret about my position – we need Gateway West. I am committed to ensuring that Idaho voices are heard on this issue, including those of our counties and private property owners."
