Hagerman, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Twelve Magic Valley school districts were notified Monday by the state of the possibility of tainted ground beef, that could have small pieces of plastic.

The beef was retrieved by central valley meat company of California.

It may have been served in some schools and 78 districts were contacted in the gem state.

School district officials are busy across the Magic Valley.

The Idaho State Department of Education was notified Monday that Central Valley Meat Company issued a product retrieval for ground beef.

"It's one of our upmost concerns the safety of students, we do a pretty good job following all the federal guidelines that have been set down and are food service is outstanding,” said Superintendent Ty Jones, Hagerman School District.

Hagerman School District Food Service Director Lavina Tellez was notified by the state that the district is on the list of possible tainted beef.

"For Hagerman sake we didn't have any of the products and I looked at the number and went into the freezer and nothing matched because we bought heavy in May,” said Lavina Tellez, Food Service Director, Hagerman School District.

The beef was delivered to 86 different Idaho school food authorities from July 2,2013 - September 6,2013.

District officials tell us, Jerome received 19 boxes, Blaine received 12, Kimberly 8, Hansen and Castleford received two, and bliss received one.

The beef is being retrieved and not recalled because it's at a lower safety risk.

"Recall is when the product has to go back to the main company not to the USDA. This one will go to Boise."

The department of education says, the beef may have been served in some schools.

However, to date, no Idaho schools have reported problems or concerns with this product.

Murtaugh School District and Minidoka were also on the list but received no boxes of the tainted beef.

We also reached out to Richfield, Glenns Ferry, and Heritage Academy because they were also on the list but they did not return our call.
