Boise, Idaho ( KBOI-TV ) As the clock winds down on 2013, some folks in Boise will be ringing in the new year Idaho-style... by dropping a giant potato at the stroke of midnight.
So, how's that going to happen?
A crane will raise a 16-by-10 foot foam potato some 200 feet high with a U.S. Bank building as a back drop.
But, the enormous foam potato will never actually hit the surface of the grove... It will stop some 20 feet from the ground.
"Potato's gonna drop 175 feet in sixty seconds, stop. Got a countdown clock underneath, light show confetti," explains organizer Dylan Cline.
Cline says he expects some 30-thousand people to show up for the midnight potato drop.
It's the first event of its kind.
