Cleanup Begins After Cows Die In Blizzard

By KMVT News

Pennington County, South Dakota (CNN) Cleanup is underway in South Dakota, where an early blizzard killed as many as 20 thousand head of cattle.

Dark carcasses of cows and steers lie motionless across much of the state.

The early-October blizzard dumped upwards of four feet of snow across South Dakota.

Now, many are scratching up funds to follow state orders and dispose of the carcasses before they rot.

The ranchers have a couple of options...

They can bury, burn or pay a factory to render the carcasses.
