Do you have cash in your wallet? You may want to check their authenticity.
Fake bills are circulating around the Twin Falls area and who knows you might be carrying some fake cash.
"There has been some local merchants that have called the police based on the fact that they believe received some counterfeit bills and as a result to that we have started an investigation,” said Lt. Craig Stotts, Twin Falls Police Department.
The investigation includes twin falls' businesses like Jamba Juice, Costco, Walmart, and KJ's.
but, businesses like rosebud's florist are taking a preventive approach to the false bills.
"You use the marker and it changes the color on the bill and tells you if it's counterfeit. You can tell if it's counterfeit of not."
So, how do you know the difference between fake and real?
"Typically you can tell by the feel of the bill. A counterfeit bill doesn't have the texture or feel that normal money has. Look for the watermark and the security strip that goes through the bills nowadays,” said Desire Berg, Rosebud’s Florist.
It's using those security measures that keeps employees at the flower company knowing they're on the right track.
The U.S. Secret Service is assisting the police department with the investigation.
Printing counterfeit money is a federal crime.
