Gooding Relay For Life Underway

Gooding, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The first ever Relay for Life of Gooding is underway.

More than 200 participants are walking to honor cancer survivors and to remember loved ones lost, while fighting back against a disease.

Excitement is what everyone is expressing in Gooding.

The first ever relay for life is putting smiles on faces.

"We are so excited, it's going to be a night of fun and our little community has come together to help all of these different aspects of the American Cancer Society and it helps so many people” said Sherri Basterrechea, survivor.

Sherri Basterrechea is a survivor of cancer and is celebrating life with her family at relay. However, she is not the only one who's a survivor in her family, her five-year-old son Nikolas recently defeated Neuroblastoma.

"We're happy to be here today and healthy” said Nikolas Basterrechea, Survivor.

Relay events across the world helps raise money to end cancer.

"People have been so glad we are having one in Gooding and not have to travel. We've had so much support from the community it's amazing” said Susan Bolton, Organizer.

Larry Simis is experiencing relay for the very first time.

He’s been a survivor for nine years, it's a special moment for Simis. His granddaughter is undergoing treatment for melanoma and relay is about encouraging her to fight.

"I think you need to have a positive feeling when someone has cancer and we really appreciate all the people that are out here supporting us” said Larry Simis, survivor.

People of all ages coming together whom all have a different story to tell.
