CHALLIS, Idaho ( KIFI-TV ) -Custer County authorities have identified a 55-year-old hiker who was reported missing in the Sawtooth Mountains and later found dead at the base of a waterfall

The Custer County Sheriff identified the man Tuesday as Ron B. Eliggi of Ketchum.

Investigators say Eliggi became dehydrated and fatigued during a hike Saturday, then later separated from his two hiking partners. He was last seen on the trail to Saddleback Lakes near Stanley.

An autopsy is being done on his body by the Custer County Coroner.

Eliggi was found dead in the water, at the base of Saddleback waterfalls.

Rescue authorities believe he walked out on the granite slab at the crest of the waterfall, then was swept away by the water and sent crashing into the rocks below.
