Husband and Wife Face Cancer Together
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV )
Delbert and Julie Lindsay, married for forty-four years, share a unique bond-- one that has changed their lives dramatically.
Julie found out she had a brain tumor in 2011, and shortly after Delbert was told he had lung cancer and suffered a stroke.
Says Julie, "things have changed of course but we just get along the best we can, do what we have to do to survive."
The Lindsay family has seen their lives disrupted in many ways but perhaps one of the most challenging is not being able to work anymore or participate in the hobbies they love.
Says daughter Tracey Hoffman, “his pride was the yard, he can't get out there and mow the yard anymore. They're bound by wheelchairs and they really need assistance doing everything."
One hobby Delbert misses is building wagons, which he has proudly displayed on his lawn.
Adds Delbert, "I used to be a meat cutter and that's the first place I would head when I got home, the garage to work on them in the evenings."
Julie worked at Walmart in Jerome for 11 years but had to quit after getting cancer.
With the couple out of work, they need help with medical expenses.
Daughter Tracey is hoping to put on a benefit concert on November 16th, but needs help.
Says Hoffman, "they've never been ones to ask for help in anything. To see them needing help is tough for me and it’s tough for them."
Delbert adds, "It would just mean everything in the world. It's gotten hard to put in words, but it would be great. Overwhelming you might say".
