Idahoans Will Have A Large Choice Of Health Plans On Your Health Idaho
Boise, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) – Your Health Idaho announced today that there will be 161 possible health insurance plans from eight Idaho insurance companies on Idaho’s insurance marketplace during open enrollment for coverage starting in January 2014. Of the 161 plans, 76 are individual plans, 55 are group plans for small businesses, 13 are individual dental plans, and 17 are small group dental plans.
“Your Health Idaho is pleased to provide Idahoans such a wide variety to shop, compare and choose a plan that is right for them, their families and their budgets during the six month open enrollment period that begins this fall,” said Amy Dowd, who is the Executive Director of Your Health Idaho.
Beginning later this fall and through March of next year, Idaho residents will be able to use Your Health Idaho to choose plans. To make comparisons easier, the plans will be broken down into categories. The categories are based on the percentage of healthcare expenses that the plans will cover. They’re called ‘metal levels.’ Bronze plans will cover 60% of healthcare expenses, silver will cover 70%, gold will cover 80%, and platinum will cover 90%.
All of the plans offered have been reviewed by the Idaho Department of Insurance to make sure that they provide standard coverage, as well as services that are deemed essential. Those services include hospitalization, emergency services, prescription drugs, preventative and wellness care, pediatric care, maternity care, ambulatory patient services, mental health and substance abuse disorder service, rehabilitative and habilitative services, and laboratory services.
Idahoans will be able to compare the different health plans based on their monthly premium prices, network of health care providers, deductible, and the amount of co-pays and co-insurance for a variety of health services and prescriptions.
“Starting in January 2014, most Idahoans will be required to carry health insurance or pay a penalty. We are pleased that our Idaho insurance companies have offered plenty of plans to choose from at all of the metal levels,” said Bill Deal, who is the director of the Idaho Department of Insurance. “We encourage Idahoans to visit Yourhealthidaho.org and speak with a producer or In-Person Assister to learn more about their options.”
Monthly premiums for individuals and families will differ based on zip code, age, and family size. The amount of premium assistance available for an individual or family depends on income and the size of the family. Generally, individuals who earn less than $45,960 and a family of four with wages under $94,200 will be eligible for some amount of assistance.
