By Joey Martin

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) As the temperatures begin to fall homes become an oasis of warmth and shelter for all kinds of creepy crawlers and pests.

Joey martin for Idaho’s First News sat down with a local pest control expert to share what you can do to keep your home free of these invasive pests.

Sam Day from Cook Pest Control says there is no secret to keeping your home pest free.

With southern Idaho’s drastic weather... Summers are hot and winters are cold.

That means when the Fall season comes around an array of pests are looking to take advantage of your warm home.

"We have a lot of insects and spiders moving in, that's very typical... wasps they move in a lot. But spiders, insects, mice... those kind of things in the Fall start moving in."
Said Sam Day from Cook Pest Control.

Day says the best way to make sure your home stays pest–free is to take a hands–on approach.

"The easiest thing is the physical things... up around your house, doing that cultural stuff around your home, the physical thing is a very good idea. And check and make sure the molding around you doors and windows is sealed up properly."
Said Day

Clearing things like weeds and old spider webs are one of the best ways to control a pest infestation.

But if that doesn't do the trick, as a last resort… pesticides are a useful tool.

"The chemical treatments... the insecticides and so–fourth... they're very effective. But the first thing I would do is do the cleaning. It's called IPM or Integrative Pest Management... you do the fewest things chemically that you can do in order to eliminate your problems and use the chemicals... the pesticide as a last resort."

Following a few simple tips will keep your home pest–free.

If you have exhausted all of your typical remedies for blocking out those pests.
