Ketchum Businesses To Start Collecting Sales Tax Increase For Airport Improvement

Ketchum, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - If you spend money in Ketchum, Hailey and Sun Valley expect to pay 1% more in sales tax starting in January of 2014. The local option tax is designed to improve and develop commercial air service in the area. The new tax will be added to the current local option tax that is collected on lodging, by the glass liquor sales, certain retail sales and building materials. The new tax will bring an estimated $2-million annually, according to information released by the city of Ketchum. Approximately $1.8 million coming from Ketchum officials say. The tax will be collected from all purchases in Ketchum. According to reports from the city, calculations show that over 78% of the purchases are from visitors to the area.
