Local BASE Jumpers Speak Out About Recent Incidents
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV )
Local BASE jumpers are speaking out after the sport is receiving negative national media attention.
Recently in Twin Falls two jumpers were taken to the hospital on March 24th.
The men were performing a stunt in which one stood on the other’s shoulders when something went wrong, causing both of their chutes to entangle.
Owner of Tandem BASE Sean Chuma explains incidents like these affect the rest of the BASE jumping community.
Chuma explains careless individuals, "Think that they can get away with a lot of certain jumps but the truth of the matter is it’s still a BASE jump and you still need to be respectful of the sport. Because if something does happen it does negatively impact the sport."
Chuma explains that in most incidents that involve accidents, the jumper is attempting a stunt they aren't ready for.
He urges jumpers to take necessary precautions and fully access the difficulty of each jump.
