Gooding, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV )

With over 300 more votes than the closest competitor, Walter Nelson is the man Gooding is looking for.

At 76-years old, Nelson has experience on his side.

Says Nelson, "They felt they knew who I was. I have lived here all my life, I've been here in business, and the people knew what I could do, what kind of person I was."

A retired banker and financial advisor, Nelson hopes his experience will help grow local businesses.

Nelson notes, "I spent a lot of years in banking so I understand businesses and what they are looking for. I'll be able to talk to them on a basis that will work for both of us."

One of his main objectives as Mayor is to do just that and bring new business to Gooding.

Nelson adds, "If we get small businesses in the area then people who are hitting the road to go south every morning will stay in Gooding for their jobs, which will help the businesses in Gooding."

Nelson says the city is already taking steps in the right direction by passing the levy.

He remarks, “It will help a lot in the fact that our water distribution for surfaces is deteriorated is older than I am. It was there when I was a kid. We can't repair it and there's a lot of places where we can’t deliver water.”

The Mayor is looking forward to playing a role in the city's future.
Says Nelson, “I want to work with the people in Gooding. I want to work for them. Anytime everybody wants to talk to me they know where to find me and I will listen.”

Using his experience to make a brighter future for the city he loves.
