New Requirements For Idaho Enhanced Conceal Weapons Permit

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) It's around that time when laws are changed or added around the united states including Idaho.

During the 2013 legislative session, lawmakers passed an updated enhanced concealed carry permit.

Changes are in full affect for gun owners in the state of Idaho.

Ryan Horsley manager of Red's Trading Post believes these are good changes.

"For concealed weapons licenses holders to be able to have their licenses accepted in other states and I think Idaho finally caught on,” said Ryan Horsley, Red’s Trading Post.

With the updated enhanced concealed carry permit, this gives Idaho gun owners the recognition in 40 states.

It also requires completing an eight-hour class, live fire training, and a mental health check.

"This is a law that is designed to allow Idaho citizens to have an enhanced weapons permit to carry a firearm in almost every state in the country. Previously if you were in another state and you had a Idaho permit it didn't have enough training requirements with it” said Rep. Stephen Hartgen.

With the updated requirements the concealed weapons permit is still the same price of $75.

"I don't think it's a confusing law, it's pretty clear and if they ask the County Sheriff its laid out pretty clearly to what's required” said Hartgen.

Horsley is seeing more customers taking concealed weapons classes since the change.

A measure that will ease travel for gun owners.
