Officers Accused Of Illegal Raids, Stealing And Selling Drugs
San Francisco, California (CNN) Five San Francisco police officers and one ex-cop are facing federal civil rights and corruption charges.
The group is accused of taking part in illegal raids where they stole money, drugs and other valuables.
The city's police chief, Greg Suhr, expressed disgust Thursday.
“This was our worst fear or I don't know that it gets any worse than this, other than an officer involved serious injury or death, when the public trust is betrayed by the city of San Francisco or any police officer.”
A public defender shed light on the officers’ misdeeds back in 2011 when he released video tapes of some of the raids.
Suhr says the five active-duty officers have been suspended without pay and their weapons confiscated.
