Petition To Recall Mayor And City Council Members In Hailey
Hailey, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) A petition is circulating in Hailey to recall Mayor Fritz Haemmerle and two city council members.
Resident Bob Wiederrick started the petition.
He was upset the city decided to appeal an annexation agreement with old cutters.
As of May 28th, Wiederrick has 75 days to get 748 registered voters to sign the petitions.
This would force a mandatory recall.
He explains he is particularly angered by extra legal fees the city will incur.
"It could easily be up to half a million dollars. And I would personally like to see that go into infrastructure in the city rather than lawyer's pockets," Wiederrick says.
Meanwhile, in a letter, Mayor Haemmerle explains the city was in fact willing to accept the judge's ruling, but it was cutter's decision to continue litigation against the city.
Haemmerle writes, "If cutters merely agrees to abide by its previous word and accept the decision by the federal courts, the litigation can be concluded."
