Senior Woman Has Good Health, Keeps On Going
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) For the last twelve years, Nan Thatcher has made it to work every other day. The kicker is that she's older than most people in our community. But her boss doesn't plan on letting her go any time soon.
"Road Work Ahead, good morning. May I help you?" That's a wonderful voice to listen to when you call this local business. It belongs to Marjory "Nan" Thatcher, a great grandmother who just keeps on going. What you may not realize is that Nan is 97 years old.
She says, "I come in three days a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Then when someone tells me it's time to go home, I say fine, I'm ready."
Road Work Ahead is a family business, and Nan enjoys her work, especially if her great-grandchildren are around.
Tom Thatcher, owner of Road Work Ahead says, "Two of my children work here, my grandkids are here, her great–grandkids. And it's a lot of fun. It gets a little noisy at times, but it's fun."
Some people have asked why Nan works in the office. When Tom Thatcher explains she's his mom, their attitudes change right away. Customers are now more than willing to help her do her job. For now, it looks like she'll keep showing up three days a week.
Nan says, "Because I just possibly couldn't stay home and sit. I like to be doing something. I love life, I'm having a good time. And as long as I can keep going, I will."
