Teacher Given 31 Day Sentence in Rape Case

By KMVT News

Billings, Montana (CNN) - A former Montana teacher convicted of raping a 14-year-old female student will only spend 30 days in jail.

According to The Billings Gazette, a judge sentenced 54-year-old Stacey Rambold to 15 years in prison Monday - with all but 31 days suspended. The judge also gave Rambold credit for one day served.

Authorities first learned of Rambold's sexual relationship with Cherice Morales in 2008.

According to The Billings Gazette, Morales committed suicide in 2010, weeks before her 17th birthday.

The judge ruled Morales was "as much in control of the situation" as Rambold.

Rambold will now have to register as a sex offender.
