Twin Falls County Fair Three Weeks Away
Filer, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The Twin Falls County Fair has been around for almost 100 years. But managers are doing what they can to make this year's fair even better than in years past.
The theme for this year's Twin Falls County Fair is "Come On Down – A New Carnival in Town." The fair board has signed a three year contract with a different carnival, and that should provide some variety for a change.
Fair Manager John Pitz says, "They've got over 40 rides that they own, and we can fit 25 here. So you won't see the same exact rides year after year. They'll be able to change some up and have a different look at the carnival each year."
Workers added on to the existing restrooms they built next to Shouse Arena two years ago. That's a dozen new toilets for fairgoers to use.
Another new part of the Twin Falls County Fair this year will be a food drive. They'll be collecting cans here at the south gate, that's number 6, at the Twin Falls County Fairgrounds in Filer.
Fair Marketing Assistant Nancy Pitz says, "The Dream Big Food Drive will be Wednesday, August 28th, the opening day of fair. It'll run from 9 in the morning until 9 at night. We're asking folks to help support the food banks in the local community. We've teamed up with the Idaho Food Bank and Northwest Farm Credit is our local sponsor."
Bring in two canned goods and get a $1 token. You can use that to pay for your fair admission or to buy food at the fair. In addition to the rides and the rodeo, the annual concert at the fair also brings in plenty of people.
John Pitz says, "Craig Morgan is the headliner and Gloriana is the opener for the Sunday night concert this year. Gloriana's first album, 'Kissed Her Goodnight,' hit platinum last week. So that really should be an excellent show."
This year the Twin Falls County Fair will close at 9:00 p.m. on Labor Day, September 2nd. That's instead of staying open until 10:00 p.m. or midnight.
