Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) Two men working in North Dakota but originally from Idaho have drowned after a canoe accident on North Dakota’s Spiritwood Lake.

Valley News Live in Fargo, North Dakota is reporting that Alonso Martinez, 25, of Twin Falls, and Damian Calzadia, 24, of Idaho Falls, were canoeing on the lake around midnight on Monday morning.

That’s when their canoe capsized.

A third man onboard, Blake Roberts from Big Sky, Montana, swam to shore, while a fourth friend dialed 911 from shore.

Authorities used divers, remote controlled underwater cameras, and sonar in the search for Martinez and Calzadia.

One man’s body was recovered at 4:30 Monday afternoon, and the other body was recovered at sunset.

Police say none of the men were wearing life jackets and alcohol may have been a factor.
