Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) It's no secret Twin Falls is in the middle of a population boom.
And, with newcomers moving to the area, one local group is doing its part to make them feel welcome.
The group is called Welcome Home Magic Valley...
And, the four women are going all out to help people get acclimated to our community.
Welcome Home Magic Valley started in January of this year.
Their hope is to make the transition to our area a bit easier.
Founder Connie Sowka moved to Twin Falls six years ago.
She had trouble finding information about the community and thought that having a group like Welcome Home would help newer residents get to know the area faster.
“We welcome new families to the area, and it's just a free public service. We just want to say were glad you're here,” Sowka explains.
The group has four members... and twenty local sponsors.
But, newer businesses in the area are hoping to join in.
I'm not the only new one to the area; a receptionist to a new dental office is getting her welcome to the area.
“I think it's a neat feature. It helps me not only feel welcomed and comfortable, but it helps me to see what's around. I know this town has grown a lot that I still have yet to see and know what's available,” Angela Mace says.
The group gives each person a welcome bag, comprised of items from their various sponsors.
Receiving the bag made Mace feel welcomed.
“It's a great way for someone to find what's available, what's around, specials like to save money. When you are new, it tends to take a pull on the finances, but it's very helpful, very welcoming. I think it is a hospitable way to bring someone in the community,” she says.
Delivering about twenty bags a month, Sowka never gets tired of the feeling she gets when she gives newcomers their bag.
“One of the ladies said it was like Christmas. The kids going through the bag, it was like Christmas, and they really appreciated the public service information, so I think to have someone come to your door that's not selling anything, that just says were glad you're here welcome to the area,” Sowka points out.
Making the move for newcomers like Mace a whole lot easier.
