West Nile Virus Reported In Ada County

Boise, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - A mosquito trap in northwest Ada County, hear Star, has tested positive for West Nile Virus. The ada county Weed, Pest and Mosquito Abatement Department reports the trap is located in an area between Highway 15 and north Star road, north of Highway 44. This is the first appearance of West Nile Virus in Ada County Mosquito Abatement traps so far this year, and abatement officials indicate this could be a localized incidence of the virus since it has not been found in other nearby traps. Additionally, after subsequent fogging in the area, a retest in the same trap location showed no West Nile Virus.

“Mosquito Abatement staff conducted additional fogging this week in the area where West Nile Virus was detected,” said Weed, Pest & Mosquito Abatement Director Brian Wilbur. “We constantly work to stay on top of the county’s mosquito population, and when we have a positive result like this we address it immediately. We will continue to keep a close eye on this location, in addition to our regular treatment efforts throughout the county.”
