A major effort to recharge the aquifer which runs below the magic valley will take place later this month. Over 20 thousand acre feet of water will be released into the North Side Canal Company System before seeping deep into the ground, or at least that's hoped what will happen.

The idea is to try and replenish some of the water that's been pumped out of the aquifer over the years. It's all part of a deal struck earlier this year between groundwater pumpers, surface water users and the Idaho Department of Water Resources. No one is absolutely sure the plan will work, although it's believed about a third of the water which normally flows through Northside Canals ends up seeping into the ground.
