The people of Glenns Ferry know their community is in a tough situation.
Gary Klett says, “well, I’m not an expert in that, but obviously in a town of sixteen-hundred people, you lose three-hundred jobs, it's going to have a pretty measurable effect.”
Beckie Critchlow says, “It's over one-tenth of our adult population is unemployed now. They worked at that plant, yes, and that's a huge impact. and we noticed it in our store the first day.”
The wake of the recent closure of the local potato processing plant is sure to have an impact, but the town won't take it quietly.
The town plans to get together Tuesday morning at city hall to come up with some kind of game plan on what to do with people displaced from jobs.
Beckie Critchlow is the Glenns Ferry Chamber of Commerce president, she also owns the fudge factory in town.
She says the people will help each other, and the residents of Glenns Ferry are going into this with a smile.
