Slurry Seal And Seal Coat Projects To Begin July 30th
Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) The City of Twin Falls is increasing seal coating and slurry seal projects this summer. Emery Inc. will begin seal coating some city streets on July 30th, while Kloepfer Inc. will begin slurry sealing others on August 1st.
The city applies both chip seal and slurry seal each year during the summer months to extend the life of
asphalt roads and minimize long-term costs.
“Sealing a roadway slows downs the oxidation process,” said City Engineer Jackie Fields. “It also helps
reduce long-term costs by delaying the time when the road must be overlain or reconstructed.”
The city will seal coat and slurry seal more than 413,000 square yards this summer, or about 23.5 miles
of city streets that are 30 feet wide. Because city streets vary in width, it is difficult to provide an exact
measure. This year will represent a 25 percent increase compared to 2011, when the city coated and
sealed a combined 312,743 square yards.
