Sunday Afternoon Lightning Spark Several Wildland Fires In Southern Idaho
Southern Idaho (KMVT-TV) Fires sparked by much storm activity that passed through the area Sunday afternoon continue to burn in Southern Idaho. The following is a current update on all fires the Twin Falls District BLM responded to in the last 24 hours.
Oakley Reservoir Location – S of Oakley Start Time – August 5th at 6:34 p.m. Size – 20 acres Cause – Lightning Resources – 3 Engines, 1 Dozer, & 1 Helicopter Contained at 8:00 a.m. this morning Control – Tonight at 11:00 p.m. Update – Oakley Rural Fire Department was on scene yesterday, but has been released. Hannah (Previously Hannah’s Fork) Location – 5 miles N of Border near the Sawtooth National Forest Start Time – August 5th at 6:41 p.m. Size – 50 acres Cause – Lightning Resources – 1 Engine Contained last night at midnight. Control – Today at 10:00 a.m. East Hollister Location – Approximately 3 miles NW of Hollister Start Time – August 5th at 7:33 p.m. Size – 750 acres Cause - Lightning Resources – 6 Engines & 1 Dozer Contain – Today at 10:00 a.m. Control – Today at 8:00 p.m. Update – The fire was assisted by Filer, Salmon Tract, & Rock Creek Rural Fire Departments, but they have been released. There have been no structures threatened, although the fire did burn close to some agriculture fields last night. Cave Canyon Location – In the Minidoka Ranger District of the Sawtooth National Forest Start Time – August 5th at 8:47 p.m. Size – 4500 acres in Timber Cause – Lightning Resources – 1 Engine, 1 Dozer, 3 Hand Crews, Sawtooth Hot Shots, Oakley Rurals, 3 Single Engine Air Tankers, 1 Air Attack, and 1 Lead Plane No contain or control has been established. Update – This fire began late last night and burned together with the Little Cedar Canyon Fire, which was in the same area. Both of these fires are on the Sawtooth National Forest, but have burned a few acres of BLM land as well. There are cattle as well as archeological sites in the area. Flat Top #2 Location – 8 miles NE of Kamima Start Time – August 5th at 10:23 p.m. Size – 4 acres Cause – Lightning Resources – None Contained at 6:00 a.m. today and controlled at 8:00 a.m. Shale Butte Location – 8 miles N of Kamima Start Time – August 5th at 11:31 p.m. Size – 2500 acres Cause – Lightning Resources – 4 Engines, 1 Water Tender, 1 Resource Advisor Contain – Today at 9:00 p.m. Control – August 8th at 8:00 p.m. Hotwell Location – 6 miles SE of Declo Start Time – August 5th at Midnight Size – 60 acres Cause – Lightning Resources – 2 Engines No contain or control has been established. IA #15 Location – 7 miles E of Hollister Start Time – August 6th at 12:06 a.m. Update – Engine responding this morning to determine size and if resources are needed. Comments ( |
