ATV Safety

By S Casey

Nearly fifty to seventy-five people spent their afternoon at the Snake River Marina learning about ATV safety and the various laws regulating the use of the machines.
Dealers - clubs and various ATV enthusiasts turned out for the event as the sport is becoming more popular for all ages.
Cary Bristol says, "There are opportunities here that you can't have by yourself out riding, they have trial maps you can go on, have groups so you have learn to ride those trails, and it's a good opportunity."
Club members say that riding an ATV is not a dangerous activity as long as you have the proper safety equipment.
They also say to pick a machine that is based on your age and abilities.
Lucas Phillips says, "Used properly, ATV’s are pretty safe, taking a safety training course, learning the proper riding techniques, and safety procedures, they're a very safe machine sot i really comes down to the rider's attitude."
The awareness event also offered an inspection for ATV’s.
Participants who brought in their own ATV’s waited as officials carefully inspected the lights -nuts and bolts and much more.
Mike Ricondo says, "They don't pay attention to their tire pressure, their brake cables, their throttle cables, they don't keep them lubed, they don't keep everything adjusted properly, their air filters that can cause them to be stranded and have to walk back and that's basically what we're looking at."
